One Day @ KVI in 1978

Every station had a unique sound (as opposed to the cookie cutter radio sound these days) KVI was a classy, personality station, fun to listen to.

These days, with all the lay-offs and cutbacks, my mp3 player has about as much personality and warmth as any radio station.

Peter B. submitted a classic KVI aircheck…HARDWICK, PETER B., JACK MORTON, ROBERT O. SMITH

It was back in 1978 when KVI carried the Mariners as well as the Cougar games on the west side of the mountains.

1979-80, mind you was that last year that KVI would carry the Cougs’ until 1983-84. The M’s left KVI after the ’84 season.

That same song would also introduce the old public affairs program “Don’t Stop Talking” on the old KING-AM

You’re referring to Jay Jacobs’ ghost’s post, Worm

I notice the voice of Lucy Rush in that Safeway ad. It was 10 years later when Rush would die when a ladder fell out of a truck & hit her in the head while walking along the Ballard Bridge.

Hearing some of that ’60s stuff on KVI back in ’78, it would be 6 years later that KVI would go all oldies, which would last until ’91 when they went all-talk only for the oldies format to return during 2010-11 but would go back to talk in 2012. I even remember when KVI had Rush’s show from 1991-2003 before it moved to the then-new KTTH in 2003.

Hearing the intro to Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” on KVI during that little portion of Jack Morton’s show on KVI back in ’78, that would become Bill Clinton’s campaign song 14 years later

Oh ghost of Jay Jacobs’, Hearing Ty Flynt on KVI back in ’78, he would team w/Charlie Brown, then-late of the “old” KJR to become the morning team on the then-new KUBE 93 in 1981. This was when KUBE was 93.3 FM in Seattle, but is now on 104.9 FM in Tacoma. 93.3 FM is now KPWK Power 93.3.

Remember when KVI would carry the “old” Sounders?

I even notice that Frederick Cadilac Mazda ad in there, in which the announcer guy in the ad has echo on his voice. I wonder if it’s Art Flemming? I wish Dianna Rose would voice a commercial like that.

I remember Dianna Rose from that old Smooth Jazz station KWJZ. I wonder if an old friend of mine from my school days in Bellevue named Lynda use to listen to that station when it was around?

It was KOMO that bought out KVI & FM sister KPLZ in the mid-90s.

I even remember when KVI used the 1990s AP Radio live special report sounder for business reports.
