Thank You, Marketing Consultants (II)

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center —
The center grew out of the Pacific Northwest Research Foundation, founded in 1956 by Dr. William B. Hutchinson (1909–1997). The Foundation was dedicated to the study of heart surgery, cancer, and diseases of the endocrine system. Hutchinson’s younger brother Fred (1919–1964), was a major league pitcher and manager who died of lung cancer at age 45. The next year, William Hutchinson established the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as a division of the Pacific Northwest Research Foundation. [Wiki]

BUT — Apparently, marketing consultants have convinced the organization that the name is too damn long, needs to sound snappy or can’t be remembered by the new generation with their short attention span. So, shorten the name of the organization to : FRED HUTCH
The radio ads touting FRED HUTCH are like fingernails on a blackboard to anyone who respects the cancer research center and the fine work they have done.

What’s next? Virginia Mason Hospital becomes VAG ???
